Roaring 1920's Hard To
Find Automatic Electric 102 Cradle
Phone with Brass Dial and Handset Rings.

CLICK photos to enlarge
Professionally restored, this round base phone was the
first cradle phone to follow the candlestick phone and was only
made for a short time. Subsequent cradle phones had the oval
base.
Original except for new cloth lines, includes subset.
Ready to connect to modern line and use, dials out, rings in.
The sound quality rivals the best modern telephone.
|

Features Western Electric early E1
Bakelite handset with spit cup, #5 dial, cloth cords, leather
bottom, subset with nostalgic sound and adjustable
loudness.
Dial label PAX stands for: PRIVATE AUTOMATIC EXCHANGE.
The dial center card: STROWGER refers to Dr. Strowger, an undertaker and inventor, in Kansas City. The story goes: he learned that operators were sending customers to his competitors. This did not please him so, being an inventor, he developed a 3 dimension relay that made rotary dialing practical. The Automatic Electric acquired the rights and produced the first successful dialing system.

(white speckles are photo flash)
In years gone by
the speaker would crank the magneto, the bell would ring both in
the unit and signal the operator. The operator would obtain the
number you wanted to connect to (Klondike 459) and
"plug" you in on her operators main switchboard.

This is a great
looking and fun crank with a beautiful old handset. The phone
rings when you turn the crank with that great old sound we've
all heard at in the old movies.
You can use this phone
as an extension as it does ring in, but of course without a
dialer you can not call out on it. It already comes with a
junction box attached.
